Forms of Freedom Project Reimagines Pedagogy, Artmaking, and Educational Justice

Conceived through an imperative to reimagine the possibilities for public pedagogy, Forms of Freedom: The Art and Design of Black and Indigenous Creative Public Pedagogies is a two-year research collaboration between Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artist collectives to exchange, learn, and create radical forms of artmaking and education.

CREATE! Micro-Grant 2021 Winners Announced

Twelve student projects were selected to each receive $500 CREATE! Micro-Grants to respond critically and imaginatively to events occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the funding, micro-grant winners will craft a variety of works using creative mediums such as film, dance, poetry, song, and oil painting to tackle issues involving race, isolation, body image, language, and more.

Working to Dismantle Systemic Racism in Healthcare Delivery

A leading Michigan State University language and literacy scholar will extend her groundbreaking work in antiracist and anti-Blackness teacher education to pediatric medicine and public health with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. April Baker-Bell, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Department of African American and African Studies, recently received a $218,000 Mellon New Directions Fellowship to support two new studies underway with the University of Washington.

MSU Survey Asks for Your Stories of Creativity in the Time of COVID-19

“Creativity in the Time of COVID-19,” an MSU project funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, asks the public to share their stories about the role creativity has played in their lives during the pandemic as well as any creative works they’ve made that have helped them get through this past year.
